Love Afloat

Treat your Sweetheart to a Valentine’s Cruise

There’s been alot of  love celebrated here at Argosy (we’ve enjoyed four wedding around the office this year), so we are especially excited about Valentine’s Day coming up.  If you are looking for a way to show your honey some TLC, check out our love-inspired events next month.

We are excited about another year of great Valentine’s cruises.  The local-inspired menu for dinner is mouthwatering, and who doesn’t love a good brunch spread?  We’ve made it easier for your schedule by having Valentine dinners on both the 11th and the 14th. If you are more like Audrey Hepburn and prefer love in the afternoon, we have Valentine’s Brunch either the 12th or the 14th.  All the events have live music to set the mood.

One of the best things about these Valentine’s cruises is the design-your-own-adventure feel. You have your table (you could even have a rose or balloon bouquet waiting!) and the delicious food.  You can sit and enjoy the music, or get up and dance the night away with your sweetheart.  There’s also the top viewing deck to stroll.  You could seek a quiet moment alone, or wander with a warming drink in hand to soak in the ever-changing views of Seattle.

Pssssst, Guys, looking for a way to pop the question?  On the top deck of a boat under the stars is pretty romantic!

Susan Pascal and her Vibes

by Sarah on October 12, 2011

Susan at her vibes

Have you ever heard those old-fashioned radio intermission chimes? Those  relaxed smooth tones letting you know it’s commercial time? That’s a vibraphone. It kind of like an aluminum xylophone with a muting pedal. The aluminum gives it the mellow sound we like. It usually goes by the moniker ‘vibes’, so we’ll call it that so we feel knowledgeable on the music lingo.

Lionel Hampton was the first one to introduce vibes into the Jazz Music world, back in 1930. He had played around with the vibes backstage, and he found one in the studio where he and Louis Armstrong were recording. They added its sounds to a recording, and that sparked Lionel to go on to become ‘king of the vibes’.  Now it’s a slightly unconventional but still popular addition to the jazz music scene.

Susan Pascal (being featured on this Sunday’s Jazz Brunch) plays the vibes. Her quartet uses a guitar and vibraphone together. Susan says about that combo, “the combination of vibes with guitar makes a full, rich and sparkling sound–I love it!”

Her quartet plays originals, great jazz tunes, and American classics as well, all making a wonderful listening experience.  Come aboard for a champagne greeting; and enjoy a brunch buffet while watching her perform on her unique instrument.

Dance the Night Away on the Ships & Salsa Cruise!

by Argosy Cruises on September 30, 2011

Join Argosy Cruises for a Night of Food, Drink, and Dancing While Cruising the Seattle Waterfront

Ships & Salsa Cruise | Argosy CruisesWe can’t wait for the Salsa Dance Cruise next weekend! The menu is delicious, the music is irresistible, and the Salsa instruction is easy enough for even our in-house photographer’s two left feet.  Local instructor and choreographer, Michelle Badion teaches the steps, and by the end of the cruise everyone is dancing skillfully to the spicy tunes of DJ Edgar El Travieso De La Salsa.

Michelle has been teaching partner dancing here in Seattle since 1989 and she draws in the crowd with her contagious energy. She teaches the steps, and gives you time to relax and play around to develop your own style. She teaches Salsa, and includes some ChaCha and Bachata for additional glamour.

The menu is an event all by itself. Our favorite is the dessert, Cinnamon Churros. They are perfectly crisp and sugary on the outside, soft and full of cinnamon goodness on the inside. And the Pork Verde is always amazing, pork loin in a flavorful poblano and tomatillo sauce. Plus, you can wash it all down with one of our new margaritas on the bar menu that pair perfectly with dinner.

Great for singles, couples or groups. Loosen those hips and bring your appetite for an evening on the Seattle waterfront!
