One of the largest folklife celebrations in North America fills Seattle Center over Memorial Day weekend with 7,000 participants in more than 1,000 performances on 27 indoor and outdoor stages. A beloved Seattle tradition since 1972, the 39th Annual Northwest Folklife Festival highlights the rich cultural heritage of the Pacific Northwest through performances, workshops, panel discussions, exhibits, films, crafts and food. The 4-day event encourages individuals and communities in our region to celebrate, share and sustain the vitality of folk, ethnic and tradtional arts for present and future generations. The 2010 cultural focus, Folklife is Community!, celebrates the more than 60 different communities and groups that participate in the festival.

Being new to the area, I was looking on here for some ideas for the holiday weekend. After reading your article it sounds like the Folklore Festival is a must. Next, I think a Jazz cruise is in order. Thanks for the tips.
